A WARM WELCOME TO OUR VIEWERS ABOUT NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS):
National Service Scheme, popularly known as NSS, was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, during the Gandhi Centenary Year as it was Gandhi Ji who inspired the Indian Youth to participate in the movement for Indian independence and the social uplift of the down-trodden section of society. National Service Scheme is a student centered programme and it is complementary to education. It is a noble experiment in academic extension. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among students and teachers through sustained community interaction. It brings our academic institutions closer to the society. It is a link between the campus and community, the college and village, knowledge and action. The overall aim of NSS is the Personality Development of students through community service. It gives an extension dimension to Higher Education system and orients the student youth to community service.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. A student enrolled as NSS volunteer will have to put in 120 hours for community work in a year for a period of 2 years. He/she is likely to participate in different programmes and projects under NSS. NSS volunteer, who has completed 240 / 360 hours of regular activities in the period of P.G. student for 2 years / Degree student for 3 years and attended two 7 Days special camps, will be issued an NSS certificate by the respective university.
The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. In 1969, Union Education Minister Dr. V. K. R. V. Rao, launched the NSS programmed in 37 Universities covering all States. Since inception of the NSS in the year 1969, the number of students strength increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up to the end of March 2018 students in various universities, colleges and Institutions of higher learning have volunteered to take part in various community service programmes.
NSS BADGE
The NSS symbol is embossed on the NSS badge. The NSS volunteers wear it while undertaking any programme of community service.
- The Konark wheel in the symbol has eight bars which represent the 24 hours of the day.
• The Red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood. I.e. lively, active energetic and full of high spirit.
• The Navy Blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of mankind.
NSS LOGO
The symbol of the NSS is based on the ‘Rath’ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space.
It stands for community as well as change and implies the continuous striving of National Service Scheme for social transformation &upliftment
NSS DAY
NSS was formally launched on 24th September; 1969.The birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation.24 September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programmes & activities.
NSS MOTTO
The motto of NSS is ‘NOT Me But You’. It reflects the essence of democratic living.

NSS SONG
During Silver Jubilee Year, the NSS theme song has been composed. All NSS volunteers are expected to learn the theme song and Sing the song during NSS programmes and celebrations.

BENEFITS OF BEING A NSS VOLUNTEER:
A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would either be a college level or a senior secondary level student. Being an active member these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:

• an efficient administrator
• a person who understands human nature
MAJOR ACTIVITIES BY NSS:
- National Integration Camp (NIC):
The National Integration Camp (NIC) is organized every year and the duration of each camp is of 7 days with day-night boarding & lodging. These camps are held in different parts of the country. Each camp involves 200 NSS volunteers to undertake the scheduled activities.:
- Adventure Program:
The camps are held every year which are attended by approximately 1500 NSS volunteers with at least 50% of the volunteers being girl students. These camps are conducted in Himalayan Region in the North and Arunachal Pradesh in North East region. The adventure activities undertaken in these camps includes trekking of mountains, water rafting, Para-sailing and basic skiing
- NSS Republic Day Parade Camp:
The first Republic Day Camp of NSS Volunteers was held in 1988. The camp takes place in Delhi between 1st and 31st January every year with 200 NSS selected volunteers who are good in discipline, March-past and cultural activities. A Contingent of selected NSS volunteers participates in the Republic Day Parade at Rajpath, New Delhi on 26th of January every year in accordance with the guidelines and requisition of the Ministry of Defense.
- National Youth Festivals
National Youth Festivals are organized every year from 12th to 16th January by the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in collaboration with the State Governments in differentparts of the country. Eminent guests, speakers and youth icons are invited to address and interact with about 1500 participating NSS volunteers during the National Youth Festivals.
- National Service Scheme Award
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India had instituted the National Service Scheme Awards to recognize the voluntary service rendered by NSS volunteers, Programme Officers, N.S.S. units and the university/senior secondary council. These awards were instituted in the year 1993-1994. Since then, these awards are given away every year at various Levels. The details of these awards are as follows:

PROGRAMMES PROPOSED BY STATE NSS CELL, HARYANA:
- National Integration Camp (NIC)
Every Year NSS Cell Haryana will organize 05 National Integration Camp (NIC) with full financial assistance from Govt. of Haryana. These Camps will organize on the same pattern of NSS Guidelines for NIC of MYAS, Govt. of India.
- Adventure Camp
Every year NSS Cell Haryana will organize 10 Adventure Camp for NSS Volunteers of Haryana. These camps will also be funded by Govt. of Haryana. The Pattern of these Adventure Camps will be at par NSS Guidelines of MYAS, Govt. of India.
- University & District level NSS Special Camps
Every year All the State University and District of Haryana will organize University & District Level NSS Camp. NSS volunteers of University and Colleges will participate in University Level NSS Camp and +2 council volunteers will be participated in District Level NSS Special Camp.

Youth Red Cross Unit:
The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) was established under the provision of section 2 of the IRCS Act XV of 1920 with its national Head Quarters in New Delhi. The core focus of IRCS is to promote humanitarian principles and values, disaster management, healthcare in community and blood services. The Youth Red Cross is the most important constituent of its mother organization, Indian Red Cross Society. It is a group movement organized at the initial stages for students between 18 and 25 years of age. We, in our college, have a Youth Red Cross wing. Any student of any discipline can become a YRC member. Under the guidance of Programme Officer, the students are trained and encouraged to manage various programmes. The motto of YRC is “to serve”.
Principles of YRC:

Objectives of YRC:
1. To conduct social and health awareness progrmmes.
2. Awareness on the care of their own health and that of others.
3. To encourage the students to extend their humanitarian services to the society.
4. To offer First Aid Training to the YRC volunteers.
5. To develop leadership qualities among the students.
6. The understanding and acceptance of civic responsibilities and acting according to the humanitarian concern to fulfill the same.
7. National integration.
8. To foster better friendly relationship with all without any discrimination
Regular Activities of YRC:
1. To conduct rallies, camps, orientation programmes on social and health awareness programmes for newly admitted students of YRC.
2. Blood donation camps.
3. Blood grouping and haemoglobin estimation.
4. Practice of health habits.
5. Exhibition of film shows, cultural programmes and prevention of diseases.
The YRC Motto:
Youth Red Cross Unit members are the builders of the nation who take part in bringing the very Motto of Red Cross that is “SERVICE TO SOCIETY”.
